Link Synchronizer Upgrade Instructions

If you do not have Link Synchronizer (any version) installed on your handheld, and you do not have Link Synchronizer (any version) installed on your desktop - in other words, this is a new application to you, you've never installed or used it before - please read the installation instructions on the usage page.

If you have already installed a previous version of Link Synchronizer on your handheld, and already have a previous version of Link Synchronizer installed on your desktop(s) - all you're trying to do is upgrade to version 1.2.1 - please read the upgrade instructions below.

To Upgrade to version 1.2.1:

1. First, I strongly recommend making a backup of your favorites directory and your handheld's desktop support directory (i.e. c:\Palm, or c:\Program Files\Sony Handheld - wherever you initially installed your handheld's desktop applications, and where your handheld data is backed up when you hotsync).

2. Find the directory into which you originally unzipped LinkSync.zip - the one which contains LinkSync.dll. Unzip the new LinkSync.zip file into that same directory, overwriting any files that are already in there.

3. Use the Install Tool that came with your handheld, and tell it to install LinkSync.prc (from the directory you unzipped to). The next time you hotsync, the handheld application will be installed on your handheld.

4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 (backup and unzip) for each desktop where you had installed the Link Synchronizer conduit previously. (You do not need to repeat step 3 for each desktop, only for each handheld.)

5. That's it! The next time you hotsync, version 1.2.1 will be installed on your handheld and any new conduit changes will take effect. (You do not need to re-run LinkSyncConduitInstaller, although it will not hurt anything if you do so.)

WARNING: Do NOT synchronize one handheld with two different desktop machines where one desktop machine has a different version of the conduit than the other. In other words, once you upgrade one desktop and hotsync, do not hotsync with another desktop running a previous version of the Link Synchronizer conduit - upgrade the second desktop before hotsyncing with it. Attempting to hotsync a single handheld with two desktops running different versions of the Link Synchronizer conduit will cause you to lose data.
