AltaVista: Alta Vista automatically follows links on the web: from one site, it tracks all the links to other sites; then goes to those sites and tracks all the links to other sites, etc. The result is a full-text search engine for the web.
Yahoo: Not as thorough as Alta Vista, but more organized. Yahoo catalogues various sites on the web under specific categories.
Netscape Open Directory: Similar to Yahoo, but with a more open structure.
