Known Bugs / Planned Enhancements:
Last Updated September 5, 2004
As of version 1.2.1:
Known Bugs:
- Problems reported if favorite name contains unicode characters
- Problems reported if favorite folder name(s) contain more than one space
- Problems reported if favorite folder name(s) contain underscores
- Investigate reported problem where in some cases hotsync log reports that directory "C:" could not be created (error code 13)
Planned Functional additions on the desktop conduit:
- Add Netscape support
- Provide option in installer to copy permanent files somewhere else
- Use InstallShield or InstallBuilder or something to create a more standard GUI installer
- Provide the ability to specify a different root favorites directory
- Back up all the desktop favorites before doing anything, to provide ability to roll back if something goes wrong mid-sync (also for user comfort)
- Track "last accessed" information so that if items are added to the desktop they at least have a chance of appearing in the recently used list
- Provide the option to sync mutiple machines using a subfolder for each machine. For example, favorites from your home pc would be synced with a "home" subfolder on your work machine, and favorites from your work machine would be synced with a "work" subfolder on your home machine. This way they could be kept separate, while still having access to all of them from either location.
- Investigate option to synchronize usernames and passwords that are tied to specific favorites (if in fact IE even supports this functionality)
- Try to either merge or duplicate handheld favorites database with PalmOne's Web Pro / Web Browser Pro handheld database (so that users can access the same list of favorites as Web Pro / Web Browser Pro bookmarks)
- Add Opera support
Planned Functional additions on the handheld application:
- Clean up add/edit validation (shouldn't switch back to main list while validation error is displayed)
- Show records in alphabetical order
- Make the "Name" field larger
- Make the scroll bar look more standard
- Allow the use of the hardware scroll buttons
- Follow the same validation rules as Internet Explorer
- Improve subfolder support/navigation, especially on main list page
- Make subfolders collapsable
- Add search functionality/compatibility
- Add horizontal scrollbar to list screen
- Ability to IR beam links to other PalmOS devices
Planned Internal Code Changes:
- Change LastState file to XML format
- Use ESCommon.dll (from RegXML) in both conduit and installer to avoid duplicating code between the two
- Fix size limitation in LinkSyncDesktopLastState::LoadFromFile()
- Run the conduit through BoundsChecker to look for memory leaks
- Don't always open the handheld database in write-mode
- Misc conduit code cleanup
- In conduit, don't store all records in memory at once
- When reading/writing desktop favorites, use Microsoft IShellLink interface
- Possibly convert the entire conduit to Java
- Rename AddUrl() function on handheld application (it's not really accurate)
- Switch resource code to PilRC (since Constructor won't work on a machine with 1GB of memory and Palm appears to have no intention of fixing it or even responding to queries about this issue)
